Simon Marsden

Simon Marsden, a seasoned leader in the world of theatre and production, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role as the Programme Leader for Production Arts at the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy.

With a career spanning over two decades, Simon has held prominent positions at renowned institutions such as the Stratford Festival and the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership and vision.  During his time Matilda, the Musical began,  the World Shakespeare Festival inviting companies from around the world to Stratford-upon-Avon to do all of Shakespeare’s plays and the newly renovated Royal Shakespeare Theatre opened.

During his tenure as Director of Production at the Stratford Festival, Simon played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s strategic direction and long-term planning. Notable achievements include his involvement in the Tom Patterson Theatre project, where he oversaw every aspect from architect selection to operational management. His adept negotiation skills and keen eye for budget management ensured the successful execution of repertory seasons comprising 14 productions across four theatres, all while overseeing a diverse team of over 400 staff members.

Simon’s international experience extends to his role as Technical Director at Dragone Macau Ltd in China, where he led operations for an aquatic circus production, showcasing his ability to excel in diverse cultural settings.

Throughout his career, Simon has been deeply committed to fostering safe and creative working environments, championing health and safety initiatives, and nurturing talent within the industry.

Now, as Programme Leader at the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy, Simon continues to inspire the next generation of production arts professionals with his passion, knowledge, and dedication to excellence. With a proven track record of success and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of theatrical innovation, Simon Marsden is a true leader in his field.
