BTEC International Level 2 Award in Performing Arts

Overview

BTEC International Level 2 in Performing arts offers learners aged 14 – 19 the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for a career or continue in further education.

The demand for workforce skills is increasing, and the need for global certification in technical and vocational areas is growing. BTEC qualifications are uniquely placed to respond to these skills gaps by providing practical skills assessment and up-to-date career-focused education in traditional and emerging sectors.

BTEC enables a learner-centred approach to education, with a flexible, unit-based structure and knowledge applied to project-based assessments. BTEC focus' on the holistic development of the practical, interpersonal and thinking skills required to be successful in employment and higher education.

Our BTEC International Level 2 in Performing arts addresses learning through internationally relevant content that aligns with the employer and further education needs. The student assessments and projects are chosen to help learners progress; this means that some assessments and projects are set by the SPAA tutors to meet local needs, while others are set by Pearson, ensuring a core of skills and understanding common to all learners. The courses offer the opportunity to explore performing arts industry-related disciplines, such as acting, dance, musical theatre, or production roles, through practical workshops and activities. These workshops and activities will allow you to experiment with different techniques for producing a performing arts event, either as a performer or as part of the production team. You will learn about the creative process and appreciate the value of learning from mistakes to progress and improve. You will be introduced to the professional disciplines, techniques, and attitudes needed to succeed in the industry.

What will I study?.

Your classes will take place in our on-site theatre and dance studios, surrounded by a community of creative and supportive staff and students. The presence of full-time degree students also raises the level of recorded work seen by students during their time at the Academy. Additionally, this gives our younger performance students a glimpse of higher education in the performing arts.

We believe it is essential to support young performers so that they can pursue a successful and ongoing future in the performing arts. You will develop your confidence and public speaking skills, as well as work on improving overall study techniques with literacy, numeracy, technical dance and drama embedded into the curriculum. You will receive group and individual tutorial support to keep you on track.

Qualification and Unit Content

The mandatory content ensures that all learners are following a coherent programme of study and that they acquire knowledge, understanding and skills that will be worthwhile and fulfilling and will also provide a basis for further study at Level 3. Learners are expected to show achievement across mandatory units.

BTEC qualifications encompass applied learning that brings together knowledge and understanding with practical and technical skills. This applied learning is achieved through learners performing vocational tasks that encourage the development of appropriate vocational behaviours and transferable skills. Transferable skills include communication, teamwork and research and analysis, which are valued by employers.

The awarding approach provides rigour and balance and promotes the ability to apply learning immediately in new contexts. The units include guidance on approaches to breadth and depth of coverage, which can be modified to ensure that content is current and reflects international variations.

How will I study?

The BTEC course is offered on Sundays. Teaching and learning take place in small class sizes so that focused attention can be delivered to students’ individual needs.

Teaching and assessment is through practical activities, encouraging students to reach their fullest potential intellectually and physically."
