An opera performance featuring a robot conducting a human orchestra will be coming to Sharjah this weekend. Scary Beauty, which has previously been shown in Toyko in Japan and Adelaide in Australia, shows music being created in real time with human musicians and artificial intelligence. It is the first time the performance has been shown in the Middle East. You can see the show at Sharjah Performing Arts Academy in University City at 4 pm this Friday (January 31). Tickets are free, but you will need to book your spot online before attending. Scary Beauty is part of the ongoing Sharjapan exhibition Inter-Resonance: Inter-Organics, Japanese Performance and Sound Art. Running from December 20 until February 15, the exhibition focuses on performances and sound-based installations that bring together new technologies and traditional Japanese practices to explore the interactions of nature, technology and human life. There are two installations currently on display at Bait Obaid Al Shamsi in Arts Square: Calls, Oni-bi and A Bit Lazy by Yuko Mohri, plus In Curved Water by Tomoko Sauvage. You can find a full list of performances and more information about Sharjapan on the Sharjah Art Foundation website. Free. Fri Jan 31 4pm-6pm.
