Paul Spicer
Programme Leader - Musical Theatre
Paul Spicer is an accomplished theatre professional, currently serving as the Programme Leader for Musical Theatre at the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy. He holds a first-class Master's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Manchester and a Diploma in Musical Theatre from ArtsEd, London, where he was the recipient of the prestigious Andrew Lloyd Webber Scholarship.
Paul's expertise lies in musical theatre, theatre production, and directing. Throughout his career, he has achieved notable success both as a performer and a producer. He made his West End debut at the Prince of Wales Theatre in the lead role of Michael Spofford in Cameron Mackintosh’s The Witches of Eastwick. He has also played the role of Sky many times in the international tour of Mamma Mia! and spent a summer with the Gothenburg Opera, playing Tobias in Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd. His performances extended to headline concerts with major symphonic orchestras and with the RTE Concert Orchestra in Dublin. Paul has portrayed lead roles in notable productions such as Jamie in The Last Five Years at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, and the Duchess Theatre, and Princeton/Rod in Avenue Q at Wyndhams Theatre. He made his Broadway debut in Lance Horne: First Things Last at New York’s Lincoln Center.
As a theatre producer, Paul’s credits include the Olivier Award-nominated production of J.B. Priestley’s When We Are Married at the Garrick Theatre and the Whatsonstage Award-winning Idina Menzel at the Royal Albert Hall conducted by Marvin Hamlisch with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He also co-founded and was Associate Director of the West End’s Notes from New York concert series, headlining shows at prestigious venues such as the Donmar Warehouse, the Arts Theatre, and Trafalgar Studios.
Paul’s producing credits include high-profile shows like Alan Cumming: I Bought a Blue Car Today and Megan Mullally & Supreme Music Program at the Vaudeville Theatre, Lynda Carter: At Last, Jason Robert Brown & Anika Noni Rose, and Caroline O'Connor: The Showgirl Within at the Garrick Theatre. His work on tick, tick... BOOM! at the Duchess Theatre, Christmas in New York starring Maria Friedman at the Lyric Theatre, and A Spoonful of Stiles & Drewe at Her Majesty’s Theatre are also notable achievements.
In addition to his impressive career on stage and behind the scenes, Paul has held significant educational roles. He served as Creative Director of ArtsEd International in the UAE and continues to shape the future of musical theatre at the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy as Programme Leader. His passion for both performance and education is reflected in his extensive experience and commitment to fostering the next generation of performers.
