SPAA Dean of the College of Music Showcased at New York’s Overdrive Festival

Sharjah Performing Arts Academy proudly highlights the recent international appearance of Dr. Alexandros Spyrou, Dean of the College of Music, whose work intra- for flute and live electronics was featured at Overdrive Festival 3 in New York City.

Performed by acclaimed flutist Roberta Michel, the work was presented this spring at Elebash Recital Hall, The Graduate Center, City University of New York. The concert was part of the Overdrive Festival’s third edition, which brought together a curated selection of contemporary music and experimental video works.

Originally premiered at the ORF RadioKulturhaus in Vienna, Austria in 2019, intra- reflects Dr. Spyrou’s ongoing exploration of the intersection between acoustic instruments and live electronic processing. The piece continues to gain recognition in international circles with further performances at PROGR Zentrum für Kulturproduktion in Bern, Switzerland, at the Mise-en Festival in New York in 2024, and is published by Universal Edition:
