United Arab Emirates, Sharjah – 25 May 2023:  Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) is thrilled to announce that a group of its talented Production Arts students, accompanied by esteemed faculty members, will be embarking on an extraordinary journey to Prague for the 15th edition of the Prague Quadrennial (PQ) of Performance Design and Space.    The Prague Quadrennial is renowned for its celebration of the finest works in scenography, showcasing an array of artistic expressions ranging from scenographic models and interactive performances to costumes and performance architecture. The upcoming 15th edition, scheduled to take place from June 8 to June 18, 2023, promises to be a remarkable display of creativity and innovation.    Under the guidance of SPAA's dedicated faculty, the Production Arts students have been working diligently to create a unique blend of Western concepts and cultural identity through their designs. Their mission is to break down stereotypes and challenge taboos, all while paying homage to their rich heritage. By reimagining iconic superheroes through an Arab lens, they aim to foster greater representation and inclusivity within the genre.    Majid Al Maeeni, a passionate Year 3 student at SPAA, shared his motivation behind this project, saying, "I am Emirati, I grew up in Sharjah watching a lot of superhero movies and noticing that nobody looked like me. I wanted to change that and create superheroes that reflect our own culture and identity."    The superheroes designed by the Year 3 BA Production Arts students are a testament to the vibrant diversity of Arab nations. Drawing inspiration from the political and social landscape, rich history and culture, diaspora and globalization, industrialism, and mythical legends, their creations challenge the traditional superhero archetype and offer a fresh perspective.    The team's journey to Prague for the Prague Quadrennial signifies a significant milestone for SPAA and its commitment to nurturing talent and promoting cross-cultural artistic exchange. The event will provide a platform for these aspiring artists to showcase their groundbreaking work on an international stage, alongside emerging talents from around the globe.    "We believe in the power of storytelling and the impact it can have on society," said, Andrea Forde, Project Curator and Lead Costume Tutor at Sharjah Performing Arts Academy. "By empowering our students to explore their cultural heritage through their art, we hope to inspire a new generation of creatives who can bring diverse narratives to the forefront."    Sharjah Performing Arts Academy remains at the forefront of artistic education, fostering a nurturing environment where students can develop their skills and express their unique perspectives. As the Production Arts students venture to Prague, their participation in the Prague Quadrennial will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on the international stage.    For more information about future productions and events at Sharjah Performing Arts Academy, please contact info@spaa.ae.
