SPAA recently had the wonderful opportunity to host Roberta Carreri from the well-renowned Odin Teatret, the avant-garde theatre group based in Holstebro, Denmark. It was founded by Italian theatre director and investigator Eugenio Barba in 1964. Odin Teatret is a part of the Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium, which also includes the International School of Theatre Anthropology (ISTA), founded in 1979, and the Centre for Theatre Laboratory Studies (CTLS), founded in 2002. Roberta Joined Odin Teatret theatre company in 1974 and since then Eugenio Barbra worked with the company members with a different methodology in acting that focuses on the physicalizing of actions, and how to prepare an actor through a variety of methods and practices to train them with physical preparedness in mind. Roberta joined us at SPAA to give our 2nd and 3rd year Acting students’ workshops oriented around her acting experiences and the methodology of the Odin Theatre. She also gave an inspiring session to our 1st year students in their ‘Why art Matters’ course, speaking about her journey through life, work, and training. Many thanks to Roberta and all those involded for this amazing opportunity for our students!
