Immersive Reflections: 'Things We Lost in the Floods' – A Devised Performance by SPAA Acting and Production Arts Students

What a phenomenal show this week! Take a step into “Things We Lost in the Floods” – a thought-provoking devised performance exploring identity shaped by experiences and personal roots. 3 shows across 2 days Devised by our Year 3 Acting students, and designed and stage-managed by Year 4 Production Arts. Here from the Director and our Associate Programme Leader - Fundamentals – Matt Ball @therealmattball "Welcome to this year's devised production. On the 21st of April 2024, the UAE experienced significant rainfall, submerging areas and making cars float like toys in a bath. On the first day of rehearsals, we discussed how identity is shaped by our experiences, our origins, and our parents' actions. This conversation took on new meaning as one student was absent, stranded by the floods. Devising work is like searching for a light switch in the dark. When you finally find it, the room is illuminated, and everything makes sense. Creating original work is challenging. For the past four weeks, these students have shared their stories, ideas, and experiences. This week we witnessed a series of scenes, images, and ideas. It might not always make sense, but it could deeply affect you. Every element that was shown came from the students' lived experiences and our current situation, shaped by what was left once the water receded." Dive into this moving journey and discover the power of shared experiences. Stay tuned for amazing shots and behind-the-scenes footage!
