Sharjah has taken a strategic step toward strengthening its educational ecosystem with the establishment of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research. This landmark initiative reflects the emirate’s deep-rooted commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and sustainable knowledge development.
Formed under the visionary leadership of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the Council is set to play a transformative role in shaping the future of higher education and scientific advancement across the emirate.
Bringing together distinguished academics, institutional leaders, and policy experts, the Council will be responsible for steering the strategic direction of Sharjah’s universities and research bodies, ensuring alignment with global trends while responding to local and regional needs. It will also guide the implementation of best practices, foster a culture of research and inquiry, and advocate for policies that empower educators and uplift student outcomes.
We are proud to share that Professor Peter Barlow, Executive Director of the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA), has been appointed as a member of the Council. His inclusion reflects the breadth of expertise represented and underscores the role of the arts in a holistic educational vision for Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates.
The creation of this Council signals the start of a new era, one marked by collaboration, foresight, and a shared mission to prepare future generations for meaningful impact in an increasingly interconnected world.
