Programme Overview

SPAA Dance Diploma students will be technical, creative, powerful dance artists who will shape, inform and inspire the dance profession. They will understand the infinite possibilities of their physique and their minds, and will also identify the endless opportunities a career in dance can offer both in the industry and far beyond the studio.

SPAA will create dancers who have a sense of mind, body and spirit, leading the way in wellness and emotional intelligence, creating a culture of change for mental and physical awareness within the dance profession, informing a refreshed sense of mindset and empowerment for a profession often lacking in such qualities.

Our position in the MENA region gives us access to world talent both for students and practitioners, and the diverse and dynamic market in the UAE specifically, offers immediate access to employment exposure and rich collaborations.

For all Academy programmes, students must be proficient in English. A minimum standard is required in any of the following:

  • EmSAT which is the national system in the UAE, with a score of 1100 – 1225 or above
  • TOEFL with a score of 500
  • IELTS with a score of 5.5

How to Apply

To be considered for the Level 6 Diploma in Professional Dance, all candidates must apply for an audition through SPAA's dedicated dance website: www.spaa.dance

What to Prepare

Please prepare a video of you dancing in your strongest style. The video should show your full body (in appropriate attire/dancewear) and should last no longer than 1:30 minutes. If you have more than one style you wish to share then please send these as separate videos. Videos created on a mobile device are acceptable as long as we can see you fully and can clearly hear your music.

If your video application is successful you will then be invited to an online dance class via Zoom. This is so that we can assess your technical and artistic ability as well as getting to see how you learn as a student. This will be based on a range of styles and techniques, using Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz as the main genres. Please do not worry if you are not experienced in any of these styles; this is just so we can make some additional assessments following your video. This is then followed by an interview with the Dance team also via Zoom. This is an opportunity to get to know you and to also answer any questions you may have. We will talk about your dance background, learn more about your passion for dance, and why you want to train professionally.

Following this process, you will either be offered a place on the programme, a reserve place or a rejection.

Eligibility

Dance students must be at least 16 years old. No formal qualifications are needed however students must be fluent in English and have a minimum of three years' training in at least one dance discipline. All dance genres will be considered; a natural aptitude and clear passion for a career in dance is essential.
