Programme Overview

The BA Musical Theatre programme at SPAA offers a combination of world-class training and facilities, with professional connections, and opportunities for international collaboration.

It is a four year, full time programme where students will acquire industry-ready skills in acting, singing and dance. The Musical Theatre programme looks for students who are passionate about Musical Theatre and have strong skill sets in either dance, acting or singing. The programme seeks those who are curious, ambitious about their own development, and passionate about the language of Musical Theatre.

Students will spend time working with tutors and creative teams on new work, contemporary material, and traditional repertoire from the established global Musical Theatre network.

The teaching week will consist of a minimum of 30 contact hours per week.

Daily classes include:

  • Dance
  • Body conditioning
  • Acting
  • Voice
  • Singing
  • Workshops and productions.

SPAA Musical Theatre students will graduate having undertaken rigorous multidisciplinary training, which provides the necessary skills for a sustainable career in the professional international Musical Theatre market, and the tools to be adaptive creatives with the capacity to shape the future of the industry.

For all Academy programmes, students must be proficient in English. A minimum standard is required in any of the following:

  • EmSAT which is the national system in the UAE, with a score of 1100 – 1225 or above
  • TOEFL with a score of 500
  • IELTS with a score of 5.5

 

How to Apply

To be considered for the BA Musical Theatre programme, all candidates must register via our Application Management System (AMS).

What to Prepare

After you have registered your online application via our AMS, all candidates must submit a short video (max. 3 mins) of themselves performing one (1) monologue from a published play.

* Please note that ALL audition material needs to be presented/performed in English. All monologues must be sourced from a published play and must NOT have been written by the auditionee.

Please introduce yourself first, and then the title of the play and the character you are playing before you start your monologue.

Should you be successful after sending your audition video, you will be required to attend the next stage of our audition process which is an audition/interview with the Programme Leader on the date you chose via our AMS.

Optional: You may also send us a 1-minute video of another skill you have; for example: movement, singing or any other relevant skill you would like to share with us.

Programme Fees

AED 60,000 per year:

  • AED 5,000 (deposit upon accepting your place here at SPAA)
  • AED 30,000 (due by the first day of each academic year)
  • AED 25,000 (due by the start of February each academic year)

Scholarships

Eligible full-time, undergraduate students may apply for a SPAA scholarship upon acceptance into their chosen discipline.
