John Peek

Lead Tutor – Singing

John has been working as a performer, producer, director, and educator for twenty-three years. For the past ten years, John was teaching in the Musical Theatre course at the Queensland Conservatorium – Griffith University, Australia, before which he taught singing at the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, and held the position of Head of Musical Theatre at the Australian Dance Performance Institute. He also consulted and taught for the new Associated Studios Australia, from the West End, UK.

John has earned a number of academic degrees – Bachelor of Business (Communications) – Queensland University of Technology, Australia; Graduate Diploma (Singing) Queensland Conservatorium – Griffith University (QCGU); Bachelor of Music (Singing) – QCGU, and a Master's degree in Music Studies (Singing) – QCGU.

Having worked with many of the best performers and creatives our industry offers, John’s professional performance history has encompassed more than 60 productions of Theatre, Musical Theatre, Opera and Oratorio, as well as vast commercial and concert engagements.

John has also directed acclaimed seasons of Rent and Sweeney Todd, plus The Magic FluteAn Opera OdysseyThe Callback, and The Merry Widow.

In 2013, John co-wrote, directed, and produced the opening ceremony of the International Convention of Voice Teachers after producing The Last Five Years a year earlier. In 2015, he received a Matilda nomination for Best Production and Best Director for his project Slammed. 

Being passionate about young artists’ holistic development has led many of John’s students into fruitful professional performance careers, including leading roles and covers in national and international tours of professional productions , such as Les Miserables, Book of Mormon, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, and many more.
