Sian comes from Wales, UK, but having arrived in the country 30 years ago, she has spent almost all of her professional life teaching in the UAE. This has given her the opportunity to work with students from many different parts of the world.
Sian holds a BEd (Hons) with English Major and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) from the University of Wales. She began her career in the UAE as an English Language and Literature teacher at an international school before moving into tertiary level education. Sian has prepared students for a wide range of English Language exams including the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, A-Levels, TOEFL, Cambridge IELTS and PET.
Sian has worked in various institutions, among them the Higher Colleges of Technology, the British Council, National Bank of Dubai and the International School of Choueifat. She is a certified examiner for the Cambridge ESOL suite of English language exams, as well as having held the position of Writing Assessor for the CEPA (Common Educational Proficiency Assessment) national exam administered by the federal institutions of higher education in the UAE.
Sian is delighted to join the dynamic teaching and learning environment that exists at the Academy. She looks forward to supporting the linguistic development of a new generation of performing arts students in the UAE.
On a personal level, Sian in interested in learning about the rich, cultural history of the UAE, and collecting and restoring antiques from the Arabian peninsula. At weekends she is most often to be found in the deserts and wadis exploring the country she calls home.
