Job Purpose
We're looking for someone who is dedicated to helping our first-year students build the skills and knowledge they need for a smooth and successful transition to their second year. You'll play a key role in coordinating, administrating, and organising the Fundamentals Year at the Academy, ensuring that everything we do aligns with our commitment to a collaborative, connected curriculum.
- Teach, or act as course leader, on Fundamentals Year courses, as agreed with Associate Programme Leader.
- To support the Associate Programme Leader in all administration and co-ordination associated with the Fundamentals Year.
- To coordinate termly ILPs process.
- To facilitate and process any updates and edits for fundamental paperwork as required, including formatting, aligning programme handbook with accreditation/reaccreditation, additions or changes to course descriptors, inclusive of weekly content, updates on all policies and assessment/feedback/tracking.
- Scheduling and minuting the regular feedback meetings, ensuring all faculty give feedback on students' development.
- Arrange external trips or internal additional master classes related to the Fundamentals Year as required.
- Act as 1st (Fundamentals Year) year tutor: undertaking meetings for students to give feedback plus anything which needs to be reported to the senior team and delivering updates/notices for students.
As part of the team, working closely with the Associate Programme Leader, alongside the Fundamentals course tutors and other staff to ensure the functionality of the Fundamentals Year.
Essential:
- Relevant undergraduate qualification.
- Understanding of performing arts training.
- Relevant industry experience (as a theatre maker, director, performer, dramaturg or in another other position directly involved in the process of performance creation).
- A broad scope of applied understanding of teaching within performing arts.
- Wide knowledge of theatrical contexts.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to effectively coordinate and manage a multi-task workload.
- Ability to work independently and with initiative but to also operate successfully in team and wider collaborative contexts.
- Experience of maintaining confidentiality in all areas of work.
- Ability to work on a flexible schedule, which may include evening and weekend work.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Desirable:
- Relevant postgraduate qualification.
- Experience of teaching and working at HE level.
- Experience of working within a conservatoire setting.
- Direct global industry experience.
- Knowledge of a variety of performing arts disciplines.
- Experience working within a multinational school environment.
- Ability to adapt to a wide range of age groups.
- Experience writing and delivering course descriptors for higher education.
Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) is an independent Academy established by His Highness, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, to address a growing demand in the UAE and MENA region for formal quality education and professional training in the performing arts sector. SPAA is the only performing arts conservatoire in the MENA region, offering quality undergraduate and graduate degree programmes taught in English. The purpose-built Academy comprises one 432 seat theatre, two fully equipped studio performance spaces, TV/recording studios, twelve sprung rehearsal studios, 12 singing tutorial spaces, resource library, gymnasium and cafe.
Sharjah Performing Arts Academy specialises in training graduates for work in the international professional performing arts industry. The faculty working at SPAA are highly experienced practitioners within their respective fields. The focus of the Academy is practical rather than academic. The central value for a SPAA graduate is arming them with the highest levels of practical skills for their field and giving them the tools to be able to successfully generate their own work or practice.
Salaries and Benefits
Salaries in the UAE are tax-free and disbursed monthly in United Arab Emirates dirhams. Faculty members receive a competitive benefits package that includes: accommodation, private medical insurance, and a residency visa, which extends to cover dependent family members. The Academy will cover the cost of education expenses for eligible dependent children under the age of 18.
Employees and eligible dependents are entitled to an annual return ticket to their home country.
Sharjah Performing Arts Academy is a complex performing arts institution. Effective co-ordination between departments and courses is a high priority to ensure that resources are appropriately shared and quality in teaching and learning is maintained throughout the Academy.
